Forestry Mulching

What Forestry Mulching Is, And When To Choose It

Forestry mulching is a way to clear land without pushing it into piles. A mulching machine runs a heavy cutting head through brush, saplings, and small trees and grinds them into mulch right where they stand. What is left is a layer of wood chips on the ground instead of a burn pile or a stack to haul off.

It fits best when you want ground opened up and left in place: thick undergrowth on a wooded lot, a trail or fence line that has filled in, a field that has grown up in young trees. Because the soil is disturbed less than with traditional clearing, the ground often stays steadier, though mulching is not the right tool for every job.

Choose traditional clearing and grubbing instead when you need bare dirt for a pad, a driveway, or a septic area, because mulching leaves roots in the ground. If you are not sure which one you need, we will look at the property, ask what you plan to do with it, and tell you which method fits.

Questions

Forestry Mulching Questions, Answered

Have a question that is not here? Call or text 803-766-6061 and you will get a straight answer.

How Thick Can The Growth Be For Mulching?

Mulching handles thick brush, vines, briars, and small trees well. Larger trees may need to be cut and handled another way. We look at the size of what is growing when we walk the property and tell you what the machine can take and what it cannot.

What Does The Ground Look Like Afterward?

You get a layer of wood mulch where the growth stood, not piles. Some owners like the cover on the ground. If you want it spread thinner or raked back, say so at the estimate and we will plan for it.

Can I Plant Or Build On Mulched Ground?

You can plant into it or let grass come in. For a house pad or driveway the ground usually needs more prep, such as grubbing and grading, and we can do that as the next step.

How Do I Mark The Trees I Want Kept?

Walk the property with us and point them out, or flag them with tape before we come. We clear around what you marked and keep the machine back from those trees as far as the site allows.
